Peak soil ‘Common sense is very uncommon’.
This phrase is given for the mentality of the so called civilised society. Everyone knows it is important to get adequate amount of food and water and to ensure that people would think it is the topmost priority to protect the land and take good care of it. The truth is not the same! Apparently, the decline of most civilisations is due to the soil erosion and degradation. The common sense is very uncommon, we live in a world where we only follow the footsteps of the predecessors, who were not so genius in the maintenance of the land.
Once the soil is degraded, it takes more than a humans lifespan to get back its fertility, original stage. Approximately more than 400 years are taken for each and every soil centimetre to become fertile again. For us it just takes a couple of decades to degrade it completely.
Hence , in this book by HG Sahdev Das, the concern of how to get a healthy and fertile land and at the same time maintaining it is described. Nobody talks about the land in this modern times. Though on this basis our very life is dependent . This books gives us a clear cut idea about the degradation of the soil and also to prevent it.
