Sri Isopanisad

There are 108 Upanishads in total. Upanishads are the philosophical religious texts which is the essence of all Vedas. For thousands of years people on a spiritual quest have consulted the intensively philosophical Upanisads. The term Upanishads means “sitting near”, which implies sitting at the feet of one’s spiritual master ( Guru ) to understand the higher knowledge. The Isopanisad is the foremost among all the Upanishads.

The distilled essence of all knowledge is explained in the 18 verses of Sri Isopanisad which states that everything belongs to the Supreme Lord and that everything exists on the energy of the Lord. Iso means “the supreme controller” and upanishad means to “sit near”, ie. to sit near the spiritual guide to learn about the supreme controller; GOD.

The invocation describes the completeness of the supreme Lord Krsna. He is perfect and complete in Himself and whatever is emanating from Him is also perfect and complete, such as this perfectly equipped phenomenal world.

“oṁ pūrṇam adaḥ pūrṇam idaṁ pūrṇāt pūrṇam udacyate pūrṇasya pūrṇam ādāya pūrṇam evāvaśiṣyate”

The last verse explains how a sincere soul should surrender unto the divine lotus feet of the Lord and thus progress in their Krsna Consciousness.

“agne naya supathā rāye asmān viśvāni deva vayunāni vidvān yuyodhy asmaj juhurāṇam eno bhūyiṣṭhāṁ te nama-uktiṁ vidhema”
